What Our Students Are Saying

Here are some testimonials from Colin and Nicole's students

I can safely say that without Nicole’s teaching, I would not be where I am today. When I was a high school student, Nicole recognized my potential and pushed me to grow faster and further than I ever imagined possible. Her insistence on creating strong fundamental skills and healthy practice habits prepared me not only for rigorous summer festivals such as Interlochen and BUTI, but ultimately for college auditions and my subsequent undergraduate studies at Northwestern University. Nicole has a wide knowledge of teaching techniques and trombone methods that will benefit any player, regardless of age or skill. If your goal is to study with a teacher that will inspire and challenge you to be the best musician you can be, I cannot recommend Nicole highly enough!

Colin Williams is an excellent and inspiring teacher. He always gives very specific and detailed feedback. He can teach any concept in several different ways, tailoring his instruction to the individual student. When any skill must be improved, Colin recommends the most helpful literature to improve that technique. He challenges and inspires the studio members to perform pieces they never thought possible. In addition to tenor trombone, he also teaches alto trombone and euphonium. Also, Colin is an amazing human being. He is kind and generous. He is invested in his students’ welfare. It is such a pleasure to know him!

Nicole is not only a talented trombone player but is a gifted teacher as well. She has the ability to make you not only a better player,  but a more confident one that takes on greater challenges. Does not matter whether you are a professional musician, an amateur just wanting to get better, or a student just starting out. Nicole has the ability to bring out the best in you. She is highly recommended.

For two years I have had the pleasure of working with Colin Williams and Nikki Abissi and it is during those years that I have grown more as a musician than at any other time.  These amazing teachers are incredibly dedicated to their craft and their students and go out of their way to ensure that their students have all the knowledge they need in order to be successful in the future.  Outside of my lessons, they have been readily available to take the time to answer any questions I might have for them, accelerating my learning further.  I am very proud to say I was a student of Colin and Nikki and I owe all my success up to this point and in the future to their commitment to make me the best player I could be.

Nicole Abissi is an insightful and musically-oriented teacher. One of her greatest strengths is that she always focuses on musicality. Nicole uses metaphors and imagery to bring the student past the “black spots” to the true purpose of music-making: communication and expression. She gives interesting suggestions for phrasing. Nicole also gives helpful performance advice. In addition to tenor trombone, she also teaches alto trombone and euphonium. Nicole is tough, but has a heart of gold. She is a great role model, especially since I too am a lady trombonist. I really enjoy studying with her!
